Chamely was a 15-year-old teenager who was terrified of becoming deformed and ugly. The growing curve in her spine mortified her as well as her parents. She felt unable to help her mother with household chores or participate in school sports because she had back pains and she would tire very easily.

On June 20, 2003, the operation was performed to correct a severe problem in my spine, a disease called scoliosis. "My family and I want to give our infinite thanks to Butterfly Foundation, to the doctors of Salvador B. Gautier Hospital, Dr. Cruz Bournigal, and to Geraldine Collado for making such a big and important dream possible."

After the surgery, Chamely was excited about being taller and not having to fear that someday she would become what she considered unattractive. She plans on being more active at home with the housework and at school. She looks forward to a brighter future.
