The new site thanks its key supporters and makes donations safe and easy through Paypal September 15, 2009 Butterfly Foundation, known as Fundacion Mariposa in Spanish speaking nations, has updated its contents and redesigned its website with a focus on those whose support has helped the foundation operate on 230 children with severe scoliosis and train numerous medical professionals in developing nations on the latest practices in complex spine surgery.
Andrew Moulton MD, co-founder of the organization stated "updating the website has been a key goal this year so that we could show our appreciation of benefactors like Medtronic Inc., Spinal Associates, DePuy Spine, a Johnston & Johnston Company, Stryker Spine, MTF (Musculoskeletal Transplant), Globus Relief, Heamonetics, Dr. Frank Valdez and Dr. Fredis Reyes in the Dominican Republic and Dr. Vo Van Thanh in Ho Chi Minh City in Viet Nam and the many many others whose help is necessary to performing our work at no cost to the patients and doctors in countries like the Dominican Republic, Vietnam, Africa and South America." Due to factors including malnutrition and the expense related to medical supplies, developing nations have a much higher rate of potentially fatal complex spine disorders, which can include severe cases of scoliosis. Medical professionals from these countries can rarely afford to attend the lectures and conferences in the world's developed nations and therefore desperately need hands-on training in new techniques. These medical professionals offer their time and expertise to ensure that the best practices and procedures are brought to capable professionals. The website also makes giving donations of any amount safer and easier. Geraldine Collado, a founding director from the Dominican Republic, explains "without donations from individuals and corporations, many of the children that meet with Butterfly Foundation/Fundacion Mariposa would slowly become unable to take part in normal daily activities such as school. One of our key goals for the new website is to provide an easy and safe way to gather donations, which is why we utilized Paypal to create a donations page at http://www.butterflyfoundation.com/donate.html. Donations are always needed and help us cover the medical, travel, and administration costs associated with our Spine Clinics."
